GET TO KNOW THE CORE MEN & WOMEN BEHIND THE MISSION

Sean Swallen

My name is Sean Swallen and I am a very proud member of the M60 team. I am currently finishing my Doctorate (EdD) in Sport and Performance Psychology at the University of Western States. My dissertation is focused on the effects of community service on Veteran transitions from the military.  I am also employed with the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs as a transfer counselor helping students in academic and career advising.  My role at UCCS also includes part-time instruction of a freshman leadership class.  I also teach at a local CrossFit gym and regularly offer workshops on goal-setting, mental toughness, self-talk, and the power of value-based living.

I hold a Master of Arts (MA) in Counseling with a concentration in Sport and Health Psychology from Adler University (located in Chicago).  I graduated with a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Economics from Centre College (located in central Kentucky) while playing varsity football.

Before my career in Higher Education, I was privileged to spend five years serving as an Infantry Officer in the United States Marine Corps in various billets over multiple deployments including one tour to Afghanistan.  I am Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) eligible with the Association of Applied Sport Psychology as well as a Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate (LPCC) in the state of Colorado.

I believe in the relentless pursuit of knowledge and curiosity. I most strongly value humility, honesty, and a resolute work ethic. My research interests include coaching, resilience, leadership styles, values-based counseling, application of mental skills, and veteran transitions. I am a proud older brother of an active United States Marine. My girlfriend and I live near downtown Colorado Springs and enjoy eating, working out, and visiting new breweries.
